Superman destroys Metropolis all the time. Heck, there was one time where he was fighting some random villain called Black Rock or something (in the comics) and he did so much collateral damage that people were afraid of him. He's also taken over the world and stuff, too--the REAL Superman, not some alternate Superman. Alternate Superman has done things like kill the president (Who was Lex Luthor).
Anyhoo, Man of Steal Superman behaved like many versions of Superman. People need to get over it. I loved the Christopher Reeve movies but they are no more the definitive version of Supeman than the Adam West Batman being the definitive version of that character.
