As for the lack of hype -- at least in North America -- the magazines and the TV shows are catering to the target demographic. That is the more traditional player (aka "hardcore") -- male, 15-24, near limitedless game-playing time.
That fits many more PS3 and Xbox 360 players than it does Wii players.
For example, in watching the new X-Play, you would never realize that the Wii was a major console, let alone the biggest seller in 2007.
