Ignoring my argument again, I explained the differences you suggest are present in both games.

Also, Mario 64 is to exploration what a 100m sprint is to a marathon.

No you gave a vague short argument which says nothing to back your stance and indicates you haven't really played either game I even gave you an example of a level that does what people are saying you yourself have yet to actually respond, could care less about your attempt to start comparisons.

It is couldn't care less, not could.  Could means you do actually care a fair amount, enough to care less.   Second, you're basically stating you want to ignore valid arguments, which in turn means you agree with me.

I'm glad you have seen things my way.

To Mr. Wyrdness: With KyleDogs response here it's obvious to everyone that you have won this argument. Please don't feel compelled to continue the discourse any further. Your point has been made.

To Mr. KylieDog: You have been completely undressed in this exchange. Better luck next time.

To the rest of the world: This thread shows everything abouyt why I am not very optimistic about the future of videogaming. How many game designers who think like Miyamoto are left in the industry? Unfortunately, not many. Miyamoto is spot on and his comments shows clearly that he understands on a deep level what game design is, and what fluff is. Ideally, every game that gets developed shoud as soon as possible be stripped of all story elements and rely only on basic graphics to represent the different elements of the game. If a stripped down version without story or graphical elements is not fun to play, IT IS A SHITTY GAME! Then it's time to go back to the drawing board and make a good game instead. Once you've managed to create a good game, feel free to add all the story, grapichal shenanigans, monster sound tracks, trophies or whatever other shiny objects you feel will captivate the fleeting interest of your consumers.

In the industry today however, more and more developers start out with the story board!!!! Some even make it their mission to make games by pushing the technical barriers of computer graphics! The results are predicatable: an ocean of bad games, or at best, an ocean of the same game reskinned a thousand times. Even worse, so called video game enthusiast line up to consume this exrement, even calling for more of the same unispired drivel. "Yes! Yes! We want an even more complicated story! Yes! Yes! More polygons will make this game even better!". It makes me utterly sad to see the industry infected by this mindset. My only hope is that there will be a viable independent scene where someone will care on the gameplay first torch.
