3D World probably got fast tracked too because it would be easier (read: finished quicker) to develop than a Mario Galaxy style Mario.

They probably wrapped 3D Land, and went into 3D World a few months later.

More obvious still, it was likely that they saw the positive response to 3D Land, combined that with the fact that the "New" series was successful on both console and handheld, and just commissioned a "sequel."

Everyone also seems to be missing the fact that now there's a co-op multiplayer option. This is something new and interesting for 3D Mario games of any sort.

I am still looking forward to Mario Galaxy 3.

There really should be no confusion of Miyamoto mentioning SMG as the core 3D franchise over Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine. It's incredibly obvious. Mario 64 has a title which is tied to a piece of antiquated hardware. Mario Sunshine, I don't think I need to say anything there, everybody hated that game. The Super Mario Galaxy games are two of the most critically acclaimed games ever, equalled only by Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
