If it had built in HD DVD, then it would have launched at near $600, people would have been used to that price point, when the PS3 came out, it wouldn't have got all that negative press for price......and since sales wouldn't seem so low in comparison to the 360, maybe some games would have stayed exclusive.....

The "format war" would still be going on, and there would still be a chance of the average consumer picking the "wrong" format.

Hmmmm......were they smart for leaving it out? Or stupid? If they had it in, the could have got more sales, as it would double as a next gen dvd player when and if a format would have been chosen as the standard. But if they kept it in, their crusade to penetrate Sony's market wouldn't have been very successful because it would have been similarly priced.....

They don't have it in, and now the PS3 is outselling it, partially because Blu-ray has become popular. But they kept it out, and now the 360 is doing eleventy billion times better than the original Xbox.
