The great thing about IMAX subsitute is that you can see IMAX size screen versions of non-IMAX movies, like R.I.P.D., but only for the first 1 or so weeks of release. Of course it's also advance audio & better seats for IMAX subsitute. |

I can't find the tech they use for IMAX, but according to the link I posted dual 2K projectors are the norm for digital IMAX.
Pacific rim is mastered in 2K, so irrelevant whether it is shown on a 4K projector.

It could be like After Earth though that was also mastered in 4K, yet the cgi was upscaled from 2K render.
I would imagine they would advertise the 4K viewing if their theater has the capability, will have to wait until August 9 to find out. I rather watch a 2D 4K version, but I'm willing to give a 3D 4K version a try to see if the extra resolution makes things feel more solid.
It has a 3D trailer, so I assume it will have a 3D version.
