This was a very eventful month, due to a number of factors. The biggest was E3 of course, but The Last of Us's leaving the chart after months at #1 also singlehandhedly freed up over 100 points. So naturally, everything is different now.
First, let's state the obvious. For the first time in ages, the PS3 was NOT the #1 platform this month. In fact, it wasn't even #2, coming at a distant third. In short, all 8th generation consoles rose dramatically month over month, with the Vita and PC remaining roughly stagnant and the 7th generation consoles and 3DS declining.
The new #1 game on the chart, Final Fantasy 15, was technically announced back in 2006 as Versus XIII, but is essentially being treated as a new game for the PS4. There may be other versions also, but the PS4 one is the only one that charted. Besides that, other notable games that were shown included Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros 4, and Mario Kart 8 from Nintendo, Kingdom Hearts 3 from Square Enix, Destiny, and MGS5.
I'd go on more about the major changes to the charts, but I'm honestly sick at the moment. That's why these results are so late. I may come back to add more observations later.
Post Away!
