Why does it seem that to be accepted by the Nintendo community, you need to be a hard core fan?

It works like this:

Person A: "No Nintendo fan would bash the Wii U."
Person B: "I am a Nintendo fan and the Wii U is bad."
Person A: "Well, no true Nintendo fan would bash the Wii U."

Obviously applies to anything else as well. It's not uncommon to see someone say what true gamers do.

The situation is even worse than that. Apparently to some people, Super Mario 3D World is not a "true" 3D Mario game.

I suppose the term "purism" comes to mind, but European royal families had similar ideas...
