Racist is not the term. The proper term in this case would be xenophobic. EDIT: Also MGS sells amazing in Japan and western regions. Dark Souls sell great in japan, and in western regions. It really depends on the genre and the themes of the game. TLoU genre and main theme are mainstream in japan; so the fact that the game does not sell well is a representation of gaming xenophobia. |
Xenophobia and racism go hand in hand. Let's forget about the American businesses that are very successful in Japan though.
Dark Souls sold more in the West than it did in Japan (and there's a bigger disparity for Demon's Souls). An action RPG is still pretty accessible and it was coupled with a refreshing atompshere.
I think this is an outright lie. What Japanese third person shooters and stealth games are selling millions? Only survival horror titles that does better than Last of Us is Resident Evil and that's only successful because it's a long running franchise with a huge fanbase. Also, zombies and apocalypse are not big themes for Japanese games. Please point out a Japanese title that's very similar and also did much better. Last of Us will likely still make the top 100 sales for the entire year!
