People have different experiences. Every time I go there to trade something I feel like I got raped by Pyramidhead. How can you have me buy a brand new game at launch for 60 bucks and then say "its not a very good game....20 dollar trade in value" when I try to trade it less than 7 days later? Thats why I stopped trading games. I have no time to chase people on craigslist and going to Gamestop and bestbuy is an insult. |
Trading in is something of a ripoff, yes, but I view it mainly as an option for getting a game out of your life ASAP while getting some compensation.
If it weren't for GameStop and their policy of pushing used products, I wouldn't have been able to start console gaming again back in 2007 for a minimal price. I wouldn't have been able to pick up all time classics for $20 or less despite my limited internet access at the time. It would be a lot harder to find gems of games that aren't carried by unspecialized new-only stores.
It's not a perfect chain. As already established, trading in games for money is not exactly a great way to make money, and it's annoying how they push you to preorder. But I couldn't have been the gamer I am today without them.
