Yes, but look at this generation. Only EA, Activision, Capcom and sometimes Ubisoft made use of the DRM available. A lot of publisher won't use this, especially the Japanese ones. The Xbox One has it for every game, you know that beforehand.

A chance is better than nothing at all. That's why Microsoft is getting more heat for it. But to be honest Microsoft is not being critisized for this alone. There is the TV focus and always online thing.

It was used for just online play because no one had a system in place for single player experiences. Both Sony and Microsoft have to impliment something into the system to actually have something block used games. I could by any EA game, even before they unlocked all their passes, used and play the entire game no problem. Now some content like multiplayer and DLC may not be there, but the game was.

So this is nothing like this past generation because Sony and Microsoft didn't have the system in place for it to work.
