Timed exclusive is a great way to tie the brand to the console and gives the game a lot of initial exposure but that's about it to be honest. And even with that, it doesn't really make a difference because attach rates by default are a lot higher on the 360.
Bioshock and its sequels, Mass Effect and its sequels would have sold higher on 360 even without timed exclusivity.
However, these times exclusives are often better than the eventual multiplatform sequels (bioshock, lost planet, dead rising). Its most likely because the develoeprs just have to focus on one platform, not two.
