I'm guessing the 8 gig model is much less popular than the 32 gig model... at GameStop.

Possibly at other retailers like WalMart, the opposite is true.

Which means Nintendo may be recalling 8 gig models from GameStop... and moving them to WalMart.

They are not dumping the 8 gig models into a landfill or incinerating them. They are moving them.

Actually, I think the general numbers are somewhere around 15-20% of all Wii U's sold globally being Basic and the rest are Premium, some stores and chains might have even lower numbers. Seeing the Wii U's total weekly sales, 15-20% of 20-30k is not a whole lot, if the world's retailers can only move about 3000-6000 units of the Basic every week on average, I doubt the Basic set has a future on shelves anywhere, stores will simply not want it. Looking for source on these percentages, I could have sworn there was a thread about this not too long ago!

The Basic is selling a whole lot worse than the Premium set, that much is certain.

The Basic set is plain silly and should never have been released at all.
