If this is true, it pretty much confirms the third game won't be a core platformer. I don't think Sonic Team is big enough to release two retail-sized platformers so close to each other (they can do them one year apart, like they did with Colors and Generations, but I highly doubt they could release them both within half a year).
Rumor on TSSZ is that it's a racing game of some sort, perhaps a new entry in the Riders series. I think that's plausible.
