Is there a danger that people are giving the PS4 too much of a free pass?

I agree with you to an extent. We have no evidence at all that the PS4 won't have used game blocking and always-on cameras and such.

What we do know is that their conference focused on games, that they are clearly trying to target exactly the groups of people who are opposed to those sorts of features, and as such that it would be extremely foolish to include them.

That's not to say that they won't include them, only that people don't want to consider that they will.
