Because handhelds are a totally different market. Nintendo has always reigned the handheld space and it's just a matter of time before their next literation of the gameboy replaces the old one. In the console market Nintendo went flat on it's face though ever since Sony entered the market. The Wii was a surpising succes but only because they managed to lure in a new market that was more or less untapped by Sony and MS. Nintendo has the perfect brand for a family friendly gaming machine but this time they also want to reach the core gamers. That just isn't working out for them and it might be a bit to hardcore to get the casual gamers back.
