The market will crush this.
If it doesn't. It's all retro gaming/warhammer/magic the gathering for me in the future.

I like owning my games, and buying used retro games.

Market has accepted this for every other digital medium. Only people that will complain here are maybe old school gamers set in their ways and people that are in to "pirating" or "borrowing" games for free. New generation of gamers will see this as perfectly normal as this is how their other devices function already.

While you can't buy used Retro games, you will be able to buy new retro games for a very low price. I bought all PC Sonic the Hedgehog games(20+ games) on Steam few months ago for less than 60 bucks.

And you do own games this way. You own them digitally. People don't understand that these consoles are X86 based, which is essentially the final frontier. I expect that the next few generations of consoles will all be X86 based with full backwards compatibility. Everything you buy, you will own and will follow you around, much like it does on an iPhone or Samsung Gallaxy.

The difference is, that in other media it empowered the customer. In gaming, it's doing the opposite.

How does renting a movie from iTunes which you are only able to watch for 24 hours empower the customer?

How does no selling/trading of games on PC empower the customer? Microsoft is saying they will provide means to do this...

We have to see how it plays out, but if things Microsoft is saying are true, Xbox One has a very generous DRM compared to other mediums.

I was thinking about music in this case with iTumes. About movies, people used to rent them all the time, because it's cheaper you might only want to see the same movie once. Things like netflix doesn't really go against how people behave.

Video games on the other hand are toys, like trading cards or miniatures or Lego or whatever. This perception will not change despite the industry trying to hollywoodize the medium. And that is why people will never be comfortable with DRM and DD. Steam has had a place because computer games are percieved differently from console games. Still, all of PC gaming is not Steam.

I LOVE ICELAND!
