Don't kid yourself, Hiroshi Yamauchi only holds 10% of Nintendo.
Here ist the actual share distribution:

Will the 43% foreign institutions/individuals or the 24% Japanese financial institutions "go down with the ship" in the name of misguided honor and sentimental values?
As long as Nintendo stays in the hardware business they should stick to the exclusivity of their franchises... to go multiplatform with their IPs would hurt their hardware sales a lot!
But if they decide to leave the hardware business in a few (or more years) due to the hard competition they can't keep up, restructuring of their company to software only would be a viable option. The strength of Nintendo is the software (super fun games), not the hardware. The games would be great on any platform.
Pride is a bad business advisor.
