They also do appear to have become a joke among the Western developers mainly due the fullfilling prophecy that they can't compete with Mario or Zelda and the fact that Nintendo hasn't been making their consoles with the latest chipsets that those working for the larger companies are expecting. |
Actually the Wii U has great western 3rd party support if you exclude EA, which is slowly dying. Plus not only is the Wii U getting the same games as the PS3/360 which Microsoft makes sure it comes out on PC for more cash in Microsoft's pocket, but e Wii U is actually getting western exclusives like ZombiU 1 & 2 & Wonderful 101 & Lego City Undercover & Bayonetta 2 & so fort, while the PS3 shares its once exclusives with Microsoft.
The problem is that it doesn't have system sellers for the Wii U yet. Wario will help this June but it needs Wonderful 101 and way more importantly Pikmin 3 which will sale the Hardware big time, and then there's the Fall games finishing the job with Mario Kart & more Mario (people still play platformers) & other games this Fall to sale the system like Wii Fit U & so fort.
The general public does not know and this is a big problem, but once the games come out Nintendo will advertise on TV and many other places for their games like Pikmin 3 & Mario & so fort.
So Nintendo's problem with Wii U is not letting the general public know and software, but until Nintendo gets the system sellers on the Wii U they will have no reason to advertise when the software is not there, but once the software comes out they will have every reason to advertise and do so. They don't want to lose the general public they have now, so ey will wait for Pikmin 3 to advertise it, and they will wait for Wii Fit U & Mario to advertise those. Nintendo cares about trust with the general public too.
Plus Nintendo also relies on selling enou Hardware so they don't have to advertise almost at all anymore, like they said about the 3DS once it sold 8 or so million, they felt the user base was enough to spread the word with no money spent and they where right. Of course they still advertise system sellers.
Long story short, too late; Nintendo is doing the exact same strategy with the Wii U that they did with the 3DS but without the need for price cut, which means they learned more than they have been telling people.
I think the end of August will show us how great the Wii U sales can do without Mario.
The Wii U gets the high end graphics western games like the PS3/360 and it gets some western exclusives which is more rare for the PS3 & 360 these days.
I'm curious to see what happens with "Killer Freaks from Outer Space" if Ubisoft ever figures out a better way to make the game, because so far it plays like a weaker version of ZombiU 1 & 2.
