Nintendo's 3D system isn't doing so good in NA.  Even Iwata has stated it is underperforming in the west.  From 2007-2011 the DS in April did 3.5-10x more than the 3DS did this April.

Where are you getting Australian sales?  Because in 2011 the PS3 outperformed the Nintendo platforms by a significant margin.  It was also the top selling console in 2012.

2008 to 2011 doesn't count. And April is not a marketing month. I can see 2004 to 2006 or even 2005 to 2007 count for DS.
