Yes, I am sure. I hit the R button when I first read the conversation to give it a second look, because I thought I might have misread.

Besides, it's not like the words for "male" and "mate" are similar in German. However, your post could explain how this mistranslation came to be. Sounds plausible that the translator read "mates" as "males" and then didn't notice that it doesn't make sense in the context of the conversation.

So we chalk this one up to poor translation? I thought we were past that, unless you're Capcom ofcourse.
