If you consider 3-4 years to be "quick", then sure.

None of the other Nintendo systems rose so high though. And wow, that's a really short lifespan. Maybe Nintendo should stop making consoles and focus on handhelds.

the drop was fast true, but they always have a 5 year life span for consoles. its their bussines strategy, and it worked out perfectly with the Wii. yeah yeah nintendo should stop making consoles, nintendo should stop making hardware and go third party, heard all of it before. how about they just quit the gaming indusrty and go into the home cleaning industry? i mean they are just making a lot of money with video games. why the hell should they continue?

I don't think a big sales drop 2 years before your next system launches is a marketing strategy.

And why would they quit the industry? Their handhelds sell well. It's only their consoles that don't (unless they can fluke it like with the WiiU).

Actually it's only really the GameCube (and the N64 to a lesser extent) which sold relatively poorly, but still made Nintendo plenty of profit.
