he same way as every other console it's released.  And Wii U has received the most AAA third party support of a Nintendo console since Gamecube, and probably since SNES.  The games support is far and away better than Wii, which had a port of GC Zelda and Wii Sports to start things off and 0 AAA 3rd party titles.  If you view this system as worse than older Nintendo systems, it's because your views have changed or because you memory is poor or clouded by nostalgia.

Exactly; the Wii started with one of the most groundbreaking games of all time and one of the best games of the last decade. Wii U has nothing even close to either of them so far.

Also, by this point for the Wii, we'd seen Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Brawl.

Seen but not played.  My point is that the amount of content for Wii U is pretty similar to other launches... a bit better on third party a bit worse on first.  You're right though, Wii Sports was all anyone needed for a while on Wii because it was such a must-have title, and we should have had a glimpse of 3D Mario by now.  I know Mario Galaxy is a big reason I was hyped to buy the Wii in fall 2007.  I had washed my hands of Nintendo for a while but that title was one of the reasons I came back.

Seeing is enough to generate hype though; I'd almost certainly be much more excited if I'd seen trailers for 3D Mario, and I think this is a common sentiment. To at least be able to see goodness coming our way is better than some indistinct possibility of a game with no concrete info.
