Someone's never seen Fern Gully. 
Machines (Steel) and toxic waste (Poison) destroy the fairies' home of the rainforest.
The dragon immunity and strength (since Dragons are part of fairy tales) makes sense. Psychic resisting them (logic over make believe) also makes sense. I don't have anything for Fire resisting them though. XD
