The Wii U could have been a sucess of PS2 levels if the publishers and developers didnt undermine it since the start with engine compatibilities. As such, its a nintendo box. No one really cares if EA brings their crap to the box anymore. They already ruled themselves out and no one is gonna buy the box because of them and therefore no one will be disappointed.

Now, to see if that was the right course of action and if 1: Next gen consoles manage to sell well and 2: Consumers dont start adopting the Wii U like crazy with a price cut and popular games out later this year.

I really really doubt that, like seriously doubt that. The PS2 didn't need some gimmick control or to bow down to casuals to sell, the software did all the work. The crazy amounts of software from all genres available got it done, not to mention it wasn't in Cube form. No console right now, not even the PS4 or 720 will amount to the monsters sell the PS2 pulled off, unless Kinect 2 kicks integration in gaming to the next level which could be a huge selling point. That is, if they don't decide to waste their entire budget for Kinetic games on freaking dance games.

Oh heavens. How utterly comical.

Coming from Jesus, I'd said that's a compliment. I will admit, thinking on it now, the PS2 had a lot of careting for the casuals and I was wrong on that part. At the very least, I don't remember it being so blatant about it. The most casual game I had was a spongebob, revenge of the flying dutchman.

Nevertheless, my point still stands. The Wii U can win the gen, I highly doubt but there is no way it could have sold at PS2 level.
