wow, looked up some wikifacts on silicon knights and it would look like the company has a lot riding on this eternal game. after they were sued for 4.5mill$ they got about 5mill$ in Canadian federal grants to work on a game, hire a staff, and become self-sustaining (self-publishing). I imagine the reason dyack took an episodic approach is to try and get a return on the product as fast as possible while taking a wait and see approach to the success of the game so they don't spend any extra resources on a game that could be used on a back up plan.
