it can. the situation is kind of similar to what sony does with PS+. a trend i noticed is that sometimes when a big game is about to release they give away its prequel for free on PS+. for example when Resident evil 6 was coming out they gave away RE5. and when borderlands 2 was coming out borderlands 1 was on PS+.

the thing is how many Ambassador users are there? werent there about 3 million 3DS sold before they did the price cut? so about 3 million ambassador programs, out of the entire 3DS userbase it seems a bit low to make a significant effect in future sales but it still could.
you also have to consider that all of these franchises have been around for a very long time, so its more than likely that most people would have tried these out before as well, so the possibility of people trying out these franchises for the first time is low IMO so it wouldnt effect sales much.
