Good question! Hmm... Mario is more focused, but is a more prolific franchise within its native sphere of gaming... Harry Potter has sold 450 million books to Star Wars's 160 million, and the Harry Potter films are far from small, plus the several major games... Disney as a whole is a big brand name, but is not an IP... the Bible is too controversial to include on this list, as is the Shakespeare brand... James Bond is smaller per installment, but has a few numbers on its side...
I'm not sure about the #1 of all time, but definately one of the top few of the past century.
