Metroid is probably around the same tier as Starfox. Below games like Kirby, Smash, and Animal Crossing, but above games like F-Zero and Pikmin.
Unlike Starfox though, it isn't really a true Nintendo-style game. It is essentially a Nintendo-made game created to appeal to fans of Xbox style games. It is not a true core-Nintendo game like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, or Donkey Kong.
