Yes they did; they propelled them from Saturn/Dreamcast status to millions and millions higher, and that was even with handicaps of the N64's expensive cartridges and the GCN's poor creative decisions.

On topic, as someone who considers sports games the video game equivalent of watching paint dry, I couldn't care less if Nintendo never gets another Madden or FIFA game.
