As I said earlier in this thread Microsoft if they go with what help live in the begining by making deals with cable companies, makes a deal that puts the next Xbox in homes as their cable box, they could easily out sell both the PS4 and Wii U combined. But that it will have Zero to little impact on the games that sell for it, which in the end is what makes the console companies money. Microsoft could very well "win" this gen by selling the most units, one to be massively in the hole because their software sales didn't get a boost from their gamble.
The market leader the past 20 year in terms of console sales usually don't profit very much from being the "leader" in units sold. The orginal Playstation and PS2 beat their respective competitors but they didn't see massive profits because they had to advertise and advertise a lot back then because most people didn't use the internet to make their buying decisions. That is why during the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era, Nintendo's had more profits then Sony's game division to get and keep the lead they had to loose a massive amount of money. Nintendo with the Wii lucked out not only did it go viral, but the face of advertising started to change and lower cost alternatives were available. So in all but one year Nintendo made a rediculas amount of profit from the machine.
