They are neither doomed nor saved. Hopefully some people will take notice that they are still attending E3, though. People seemed to have created some type of lie to themselves that Nintendo won't be there at all.

Its not that they WONT be there, its that they seem to be REDUCING their presence. Rather than having a large conference with lots of media, andwith fans to generate hype and noise for all announcements they seem to be reducing the amount of media they are inviting (at least that is what the comments imply imo). They are also not doing anything for fans other than having a booth for games which I find strange. I just find it really strange that they are splitting the presentations as they will likely make less of a splash.

yes, you are right. It seems they are reducing their E3 presence. But at the same time they are increasing their presence during the hole year through Nintendo Directs. By releasing ton of unexpected news on their Nintendo Directs, they have been hyping media coverage not just once per year, like with E3. That is more effective than E3.

If they have good games to show at E3, but have a bad presentation, people make the idea Nintendo fail simply because it couldn't deliver a better presentatino than the others. But with no other competition doing so against Nintendo Directs, they asure the news will be delivered clearly for what they intent to.

You are right in that E3 is more risk and reward depending on how your presentation. But you can always count on a lot of attention from media. Will nintendo direct broadcasts get the same? I mean that is generally how big companies try to angle it - get bigger booths, bigger stores, bigger platforms to advertise your  products. What nintendo are doing just seems so contrary to this principle. Still if it works for them....
