The thing is that bungie them selfs stated that Destiny IS NOT an MMO. they said its an action adventure shooter game first and formost. thats why i have a feeling it will have an impact, but it seems they are trying to merge the traditional single player game with the huge online multiplayer game, and i feel they are going to be very sucssesful at it. my question to you is, even if SSB4 did that, how will it effect the indusrty? same question about the pokemon game, while im not questioning how good the game will be or not, im saying even if they turned out to be as good as you said, how will that effect the indusrty? (to make it clear im not trying to downplay im honestly just asking to see your point of view on the matter) BTW you are a really cool user, you actually like talking about games instead of argueing about exclusives |
If Destiny is an "action Adventure Shooter" then how is it different then borderlands?
From what I've seen it looks just like Halo, except you have to play online, and people can come and join your game at any time. That to me looks like MMO Halo.
LOL thanks for the last comment, most people don't see that because when I do critisize an exclusive, then I'm a biased fanboy LOL.
To be honest, I don't know what single game will really impact the industry. I mean what 7th gen games really impacted the industry? Wii Sports? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? What else?
Destiny won't sell more then a multiplatform Halo would have, I don't see it as a unique idea, because Lost Planet 2 and Boarderlands 2 were single player games, which let others join your game for a massive co-op experience. Desity will probably sell well, but it's not going to lead platform sales, and it's not going to make anywhere nearly as big of an impact as Halo did.

Smash Bros. 4 will be a Wii U/3DS multiplatform game (or there will be two separate Smash Bros. games which connect to each other). It might not change the industry, but I think sales will grow significantly for this fighter, and Smash Bros. already is the best selling fighter. If it's sales doubled, that's a pretty big impact, and if Smash Bros. 3DS is successful, it will be the first majorly successful handheld fighter. That's kinda a big impact because genres which were never popular on handhelds, are starting to become popular.
Pokemon X/Y won't be a huge impact, but it will make an impact on how Nintendo designs handheld games, and it might also make a flare in popularity for the Pokemon franchise, which will be the first time the franchise became more popular since it's inception (Diamond/Pearl did sell better then Ruby/Saphire, but the GBA was the weakest selling Nintendo handheld). So if more people start to play Pokemon because of this game, it might make Nintendo more bold with future franchise decisions. After all, Nintendo's boldest ideas, often turned out to be there best games (Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario RPG, Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Metroid Prime, etc)

I think when I made my comments, I was thinking about sales and future sales of the respective series. I don't see either Destiny, Smash Bros. or Pokemon change the way other developers make their games. Destiny won't make more "Action Adventure Shooters" appear, and Smash Bros won't make other fighters more popular either.
As for The Last of Us, all it is, is a quality game developer tackling a popular concept atm (Zombies/Undead), with a bit of a twist (a parasite). This game isn't a case of which game will make a big impact, this is a case of what good games will a big prior impact (Resident Evil 4, Dawn of the Dead, and the rise in popularity of Zombie/Undead flicks) make? The Last of Us is that game, not something wholly new.
So if we're talking about games that impact the indistry via how other devs make their games, I don't see any announced games making a big impact. Smash Bros. 3DS might make that 1 fighter series popular on the handhelds, and Pokemon X/Y might get Nintendo to take more risks with future franchises/IP's, but that's about it.
