Not because it doesn't have the potential (it does) but retailers are having their shipments collecting dust. It appears Wii U is undertracked by at least 200k. Nintendo will most likely ship 500k this quarter (maybe less)... Nintendo is most likely scaling production down and retailers will probably be conservative with their orders. If Wii U starts selling it will most likely be met with supply issues which will hinder its "good holiday" people would like to see.
2 notable posters are expecting Nintendo to sell through 10mil by years end and it's those posters (and the ones who agree or seem to think Nintendo can do it) that I'm saying are going to be disappointed. If you are expecting around 8mil sold through and you consider that "a good holiday" then sure. I can agree those numbers are possible but I don't think that's really good. |
I think it will have a pretty good holiday, if they cut the price in aug to coincide with Pikmin and Wii Fit it could drive up demand and Wind Waker in sept to continue momentum. That would give retailers more faith this holiday especially if 3D Mario/Mario Kart/Wii Sports 3 come out. 10 million seems a bit high but 8-9 million by the end of the year is doable which is right around what PS360 were after there first full year.

Wii U has already dropped behind the Ps3 in terms of shipped units and I think that trend will continue in the next quarters. That means less than 5.45mil shipped by September. The 8mil by years end is possible but it would rely heavily on 4th quarters sales.
