Hear what Sessler says and see why it matters. Nintendo Directs are aimed at hardcore/core Nintendo fans. E3 is aimed at the gaming world.

Exactly. E3 gets more press than a lone Nintendo direct ever will and even on Youtube it will get more hits because its spread amongst websites and posters, therefore more exposure. Nintendo is going to get a mudhole stomped in them in marketing this year and it starts at E3. Lets hope they offer up something really....really big. Iwata has also acknowledged that the Wii U is selling slowly because of a lack of compelling games just like the DS did in the beginning.

but nintendo will be at e3, just not with a press conference in front of the audience. it's not as if ign or whatever wouldn't still get exactly the same informations as with this conference. who do you expect to hear about wii u because of the conference who won't hear about wii u otherwise?

someone reading a newspaper? will read about it with or without conference because the journalist will have the same informations.

someone reading on gaming websites? will read articles about exactly the same games as with conference

someone watching tv? the tv channel will have someone walking around from booth to booth to show some stuff and have maybe an interview with some representatives

people on youtube? will watch the same trailers and gameplay videos with or without conference

i seriously don't know which audience would only hear about mario kart or whatever with a conference instead of a booth and press rooms.
