Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?

They are helping. The January ND for Wii U showing Monolith Soft's X did a great job of generating much needed excitement. This past 3DS one did the same for that system with games like Yoshi's Island, Link to the Past 2, and Bravely Default.

E3 reaches a much bigger scope in terms of the mainstream press though. Nintendo Direct is nice, but it's mostly something for 10,000-20,000 people who are going to buy all of those games anyway.
