They can't sit around doing nothing and just wait for Mario 3D and Mario Kart this December when NSMBU isn't doing anything.
The system will be dead if they bet on more Mario + a new paint job on an old Zelda game (that didn't even sell that great the first time around) can't turn around their fortunes.
Iwata has said many times one of the biggest mistakes with the GameCube is they waited too long to price collapse ($99.99) and they wanted to avoid that mistake with the 3DS.
If the yen remains favorable they will drop by August. Count on it.
I don't really buy the "it haz no games" thing either. It has a new Mario, Nintendo Land, LEGO City, Zombi U, Scribblenauts, Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3, Need For Speed, Monster Hunter, etc. I mean really, what was it supposed to have? A new Mario and a new Zelda and a new Metroid in the first 4 months? Pikmin 3 would not make a big difference one way or the other.
People just are not as interested in the concept of a $350 machine that has 360/PS3 level visuals and a tablet controller with a low-res resistive touch screen.
