It's just you, the game is incredible. I didn't really think much of the combat mechanics in the previous two games and the stealth/detection method you mentioned wasn't particularly polished. I'd go so far as to say that the combat mechanics in the previous games now feels dated and relatively basic.

In Infinite, the combat is played at a far faster tempo, is well polished and forces you to think on your feet. The sky rails become essential for seeking enemies/positional advantage, the two weapon system plus the shortage of ammo forces you to frequently switch weapons depending on your situation and Elizabeth's ability to pull in different items from other worlds can mean the difference between success and failure. There's so much more depth to the combat when compared to the last two games (and especially two which I thought felt dated when it released). If you're finding you're simply playing it like your average FPS then I recommend increasing the difficulty so that you can experience the fast paced nature of the new game.
