Life comes with consequences, it's the foundation that learning is built on. Adam, whoever this guy is, decent or not, certainly deserved to be separated from Microsoft; by his own doing or that of his superiors. His comments cost the company sales (you have to believe that there's people out there who decided not to purchase the next xbox specifically because of what he said and how he said it) and damaged an image that Microsoft has worked very hard to improve.
You can't insult and denigrate the buying public that supports both your job and the overall financial viability of the company you work for... unless you're talking about Wal-Mart. That place could open up a store at the bottom of Lake Erie and you'd see people tossing on swim trunks and scuba gear to save a few bucks.
Stupid and hopefully for him, a lesson learned.
