thing is, if you look at a low quality gif you don't see some of the problems a game has (some bad aliasing or so) and because the gif has a bad quality all the stuff which looks bad in the gif is something your brain tells you "hey it only looks bad because of the bad quality" and that makes a gif look awesome even if it has bad quality. hard to explain what i mean but yeah^^
if you look at two different games, let's say halo 4 and crysis 3 pc on ultra and both as gifs, you don't really see such a huge difference. it's important to take a gif from an interesting part of the game and it almost automatically looks awesome. but play both games by yourself on a big screen or look at youtube videos in 720p or 1080p (even if they have also bad quality) and you see a huge difference between both games.
