That's not necessarily true yet. It depends how the PS4 and next box actually sell. With how well their predecessors have been selling lately they might not sell well at all as many have just spent money an a console that is new to them. Plus, with the allegid release price in the UK for the PS4 at 300 British pounds that should put it at roughly $450 US for the base model. So once again on the expensive side for a console after a global recession.

If it's $450 in the States (which would be my guesstimate given what's under the hood) there's no way it will be £300 over here. We always get shafted. Just take $50 off and that's how much it'll be over here. £400.

Despite their recent fundraising by selling shares and office buildings they're not in a financial position where they can afford to make a great loss on each unit sold. The $450 should leave them with a manageable loss on each unit sold.
