1 - " The Gamecube was the most powerful console at the time, yet it failed." - OP.  No, the Xbox was by a large margin.  The Cube was in the middle.
2 - The GCN had mini 1.4 GB disks while the PS2 & Xbox had full size DVD's holding several times as much data, meaning video, audio, & textures for large games needed to be aggressively compressed resulting in muddy looking ports.
3 - The console looked like Barneys lunch box.
4 - The system had virtually no online, while the Xbox & PS2 had online gaming as a strong selling point.

I love the Gamecube, but to say it was a perfect system for 3rd party games & it only failed to sell well because it had the Nintendo name on it is disingenuous.

No the Xbox was more powerful. You're right on everything else though lol.

I know, that was a quote from the OP I was refuting.  He said Nintendo tried the Sony approach with the Cube & had the most powerful console but still failed.  I was just making some points as to why the system failed that didn't include "Because it's Nintendo & people only want Nintendo games on Nintendo sytems".  That's bull, people want all their games on one system & Nintendo fans want that one system to be a Nintendo system.  Unfortunatly Nintendo made a system that is over priced & underpowered in the Wii U, meaning ports of last gen games & Nintendo exclusives are all it will recieve.

For the gamer who want's all their games on one system this is a valid reason to be angry with Nintendo.

I for one love Nintendo games, but will not be purchasing a Wii U any time soon.  As a piece of hardware it just makes no sense for me to purchase it.  I have a back cataloge of Wii (& Cube) games and a Steam account that in mocking me with unfinished gems, if the Wii U had next generation graphics and a promise of 3rd party games for the next 5+ years I would consider it, as it is I might buy one far down the road for dirt cheep after it's replaced by something new, but I really don't need it.
