Of course it's not an iron clad rule, but these things can affect how a console performs. PS2 was riding on the massive momentum of the PS1, that built its momentum partly because it was very easy and cheap to develop for and its competitors weren't. PS3 in its early days did lose a few devs because of its architecture. So I added it in because it might be an indicator.
