Good indicators that a console will be a success are:
No hardware flaws, such as faulty processors, being a hardware addon, unnessecary difficulty of programming, etc.
Acceptable price level.
Breadth of game library. (How many genres are adequately represented on the system)
Killer apps. (Games that become so popular, that people buy the system in droves for them, like Sonic 2, Halo, Tetris, Super Mario Bros or Wii Sports)
