I think internally Nintendo has been slapped awake, the Wii U situation has to be extremely humbling for them.
The fact is though they simply can't do a lot at the moment. You can't just snap your finger and start releasing games, as games take 2 years.
The failure of the Wii U to date is a result of really horrible planning and decision making on Nintendo's part for the past 2 years of developing the platform.
Right now all they can really do is wait for Mario Kart U to be ready and try to salvage this mess from there.
