I think saying "Nintendo soars" is a bit hyperbolic though, clearly their stock looking at it over the past 2-5 years is not in good shape and yes the yen/dollar fluctuation is helping them, but look at the soaring Nikkei in comparison Nintendo's bump from the improving Japanese economy and the more favourable yen/dollar is rather modest actually.
If it wasn't for the yen/dollar improving for Japanese companies, Nintendo would probably be dropping even further, so at least there's that, but I'm not even sure if that's a great thing for Nintendo as it indicates more that the stock is only stabilizing a little bit due to outside factors, not because of company performance or policy shift.
In particular the pronunced overall drop in Nintendo's stock since last November's launch of Wii U is troubling. It shows that the investors are aware of the system and its problems, it's not something Nintendo has been able to quietly hide or deflect attention from. As such it probably means Nintendo stock will be getting hammered as long as the Wii U is not performing to par.
Which is why I wouldn't touch their stock with a 50 foot pole.

I would call 18% soaring. If I can make 18% gains monthly on my investments I will soon be making these posts from my secret lair on a tropical island. I think I actually took the thread title from an article on one of the financial websites I read. And Nintendo actaully gained rapidly, much more than the Nikkei during the last month. Again, this isn't looking at the whole picture of Nintendo's situation. This is looking at the situation of the last few weeks. Good US financial info was released, the Yen dropped further, the Nikkei gained and Nintendo gained at twice the rate of the Nikkei.
Nintendo's drop over the last year or 3 years is another matter, as is their ability to recover. I'm confident in their ability to post large profits in the coming year, but that's a whole other topic.

Well right now a lot of stocks are booming. Obviously the stock market is recovering strongly (see the Dow hitting new highs), there are many stocks in this run that would net you a better return than Nintendo, which is still being weighed down by poor Wii U performance and missed 3DS sales targets in the West.
Sony stock is up quite a bit also.

Yeah, there are lots of booming stocks, but since this is a gaming site I stick to discussing those on here. I would have loved to have purchased some Sony in November. Man... such a return... I never expected that turnaround, that quickly. Sigh...
