Could be NPD adjustments also (for example that NPD Dec undertracking is adjusted into early 2013 reports). Their data is not always trustworthy on a monthly basis. ioi confirmed this too in the past. NPD never adjusts already released numbers, they always bake in their adjustments into future reports.
Just ask yourself, in a slow time of the year just before a next gen is about to launch how can all of a sudden all consoles have been able to keep steady sales compared to last year? I think we need to take these numbers with a grain of salt.
