There was one problem with it, which cast into doubt all of your points.

Koalas are NOT bears.

Bears are mammals
Koalas are marsupials.
They are not even called koala bears in the same way that elephant seals are called that, despite having nothing in common with elephants, they are simply not called koala bears outside of America or the 18th century, when people were unaware of the whole mammal marsupial thing.

You are correct koalas aren't Bears they are mammals though  , marsupials are in fact pouched mammals and while Koalas aren't bears  through out the world they have commonly been called koala bears even here in Australia , you don't have to go back to the 18th century . 

With Australian flora and fauna becoming better established as a part of the  mid 20th century  curriculum  and  the advent of modern  media terms like Koala bear and old people calling echidnas common name (spiny ant eaters) porcipines started to decline .
