People dont want a stripped down version of a great os.
Windows 8 tablets will naturally take the place of other tablets as they are actually capable of doing everything a windows 8 pc and laptop can do. I am not worried at all. No matter how much pepople try to down play windows 8 using windows 8 rt.
Edit: I wasnt that old for the first round of OS wars, but windows will win this one like they did the first. iOS is too closed, and wont be on enough different hardware since only apple makes the hardware. Linux (android) is too open, it will fracture their market as hardware makers tailor it to their own needs too much. Windows will win out on being a good blance of both. Thats the way I see it playing it out, and thats what I have seen happening with Apple already falling to Android, and talks of Samsung using their massive marketshare to force google to let them do what ever they want with the android os or making their own os. |
That is exactly what I meant with my 1000$ comment.
The general consumer wont know the dufference, and the market has changed a lot sincse the first OS war. MS is starting to become the copycat and not the innovator. The market changes way to fast for them to even have time to react. They will always have a presence, but just like with gaming, tablets, phones... they will allways be #2 behind their rivals (or in some cases #3, 4, 5...).
