The PS3 will always ultimately be seen as a sour note for Sony as it effectively wiped out most of their profits from the PS1/PS2 eras. It's an impressive marathon runner though, but I think that really has more to do with Nintendo's own bumbling in the console space.
They should have released an HD-higher specced Wii in 2010 or 2011 and recognized that the original Wii was running out of steam.
